OSCulator 2.10.3

New Features:

  • When routing is stopped or paused, “All Notes Off” MIDI Controller message is sent to all active MIDI output ports on all channels.
  • Added an option in the Presets menu that allows to use the Preset name in a OSC message, suitable for example updating a text label in an OSC device.
  • Added Mouse Smooth Scrolling events, like on the Mighty Mouse.

Changes:

  • Made MIDI Note generation more flexible in a way that it is now possible to send two consecutive Note On or Note off messages in a succession, when the input is only made of the values 0.0 and 1.0.
  • Fixed MIDI Input mode when opening old files.
  • Fixed a crash that would happen when pasting content in the Main Window.
  • Fixed a bug when importing a file from an older version that contained strings arguments.
  • Fixed a bug happening when importing a large TouchOSC layout file in the Parameters Window / OSC tab.
  • Made the activity monitor a bit more sensitive.
  • When routing a OSC message with the <all args> token, the routed message has now the proper count of arguments.
  • Made it so OSCulator closes all connections with a Kyma device before quitting.
  • Fixed a bug where it is not possible to turn off the Wiimote LEDs without before setting the LED to another state.
  • Removed support for Wiimote joystick values smoothing.
  • Added some Wiimote addresses to the Perfect Pairing database.
  • Added a Key Combo file that defines the Command-Tab key combo.
  • Made it so Mouse Relative moves use a tiny dead zone at the center to workaround bad calibrated inputs.

Konkreet Performer: A futuristic iOS Interface

What could be making music by taking full advantage of the possibilities created by the latest multi-touch technology? Conventional controls like faders, rotaries, buttons, are perhaps not the best way to bring a visual connection between the musician and the audience when on stage.

More than a studio controller, Konkreet Performer has been designed from the ground up to be a superior live performance instrument.

And it looks very promising!

In the Noisepages board, Shai Levy from konkreetlabs.com hints us on the motivation that fueled the development of Konkreet Performer:

and then came the iPhone and the stream of new music apps grew by the day. we could see the potential of using this platform to be used as a controller, but were literally shocked to see faders and knobs being repeatedly cloned from the old physical interfaces down to the flat, yet very powerful domain of the tablets.

so we came up with Konkreet Performer! and because it’s not out yet, i’m really dying to tell you how it is to work with: we use OSCulator to map it to our DAW of choice. so far we’ve experimented mosly with Ableton Live and Kore2.

So here is a very innovative controller for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. I must say I am very excited about this inspiring video, and I am looking forward to trying it on early 2011!

Musiker Magasinet

The Sweden’s number one musicians’ magazine, MM (short for Musikermagasinet) features a comprehensive article on the iPad and focuses on it’s music capabilities (november issue).

Using the iPad / iPhone for music creation, DAW control and interface design

A couple of nice readings:

On his blog, Sounds Defy Gravity, Michael Walsh wrote a feature about music creation using iOS devices.

In another article, he talks about the evolution of DJing using multi-touch controllers.

OSCulator 2.10.2

Changes:

  • Resolved a problem of compatibility with older files where OSC routings would not be restored properly.
  • When an OSC Routing is in the Value column, changed its formatting to make it a little bit easier to understand by displaying the target’s host or service name.
  • Wiimote: added support for more Wiimotes.

OSCulator 2.10 release candidate 1

Changes:

  • Made the “cap” option in the Scalings Page working again.
  • Rounding for MIDI events is more reliable.

OSCulator 2.10-beta4

New features:

  • Pressing the Control key in a MIDI CC values menu will display the corresponding General MIDI definitions.
  • Pressing the Control key in a MIDI Note or Kyma Note values menu will display the corresponding note number (0 to 127).
  • In the Presets menu, the current preset can now be set to send all its values when it is restored.

Changes:

  • Fixed a name clashing problem between the Enable and Wiimote’s Enable events.
  • Fixed a problem where messages in the main window would not be sorted naturally.
  • When holding the Alt key while selecting certain types of Events now behaves as expected (for example, selects MIDI CC’s in incremental order).
  • Made Wiimote’s settings correctly restored.
  • Added some new Wiimote’s address definitions.

OSCulator 2.10 beta 3

Changes:

  • Fixed a bug where files with MIDI CC and MIDI CC Toggle events would not be restored properly.
  • Temporarily disabled some animations on Leopard that were causing a crash until a proper fix is found (if any).

OSCulator 2.10 beta 2

Changes:

  • Fixed a serious bug that prevented running on Mac OS X Leopard.
  • Added Copy/Paste to Parameter editors

OSCulator 2.10 beta 1

Note: This version is not anymore compatible with Tiger or PowerPC computers.

OSC improvements:

  • OSC routes are now independent of the target device.
  • A table now shows the OSC devices detected on the network. This is useful for example to see if TouchOSC is correctly connected.
  • It is possible to register manually an OSC message by typing its address. Check “Manually Create Message …” in the Routings menu.
  • It is possible to edit a copy of a OSC routing that has been created automatically after back-mapping.
